Leveraging the power of social media at events

Text on a textured background reads "PrettyLittleThing, a Legacy is in Progress...". Faint unicorn design, times shown, mood is elegant and mysterious.

At the beginning of March, I was fortunate enough to attend Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, the world’s largest and most influential connectivity event. Immersed in the world of cutting-edge mobile technology, the team and I managed to clock an impressive 100,000 steps while providing on-the-ground social media support for one of our clients exhibiting at the show.

Social media is a powerful tool for amplifying your business’ presence at any industry event. Whilst reflecting on our experience at MWC, I have put together this blog to highlight the most effective ways companies can leverage social media to maximise their impact.

Pre-event buzz

Before even stepping onto the tradeshow floor, businesses can start generating buzz by sharing social media posts to announce their attendance. This gives your clients, prospects and target media a heads-up, building anticipation and setting expectations for what’s to come. If you’re speaking, hosting a panel, or organising any events during the conference, now is the perfect time to share more details, encouraging your audience to attend.

It’s also a good idea to get your team involved, especially those who are representing the company at the tradeshow. By promoting their attendance on their own social channels, they can tap into their own personal networks, amplifying the reach and impact of your messaging.

At the event

Whilst at the show, seize the opportunity to share live updates that keep your audience engaged and informed about the key highlights. This could include impactful quotes from your speaker sessions, insightful takeaways, emerging trends, or standout photos from the show floor. It’s important to keep in mind that tagging and mentioning other speakers or attendees not only fosters cross-promotion but also helps strengthen new connections you are building.

Be sure to consistently use the event’s hashtags and engage with other companies or attendees who are doing the same. This boosts your visibility within the event community and positions your company alongside industry peers.

Post-event engagement

After the event has taken place, you can share your biggest takeaways, any content created and thank those who visited your booth or attended your sessions. This helps keep your audience engaged, continuing conversations and reaching those who may have missed your content during the event.

Encourage your team to share their own photos, experiences or thoughts on their social channels to maximise the impact of your participation at the event and foster a sense of community around your brand.

By leveraging these strategies, social media can help your company stand out, expand your network and position your brand as an influential player in the industry.
